F-150 Lightning Gets More Power, Capability, and Range

The Ford F-150 Lightning is one of the most powerful — and affordable — full-size electric trucks in Canada. Since its debut, Ford has taken this beastly vehicle even further and worked to enhance its range, power, and capability.

“We were seriously focused on raising the bar on this truck, including after we revealed it, so we can deliver more for our customers,” said Dapo Adewusi, F-150 Lightning vehicle engineering manager.

One way the new F-150 Lightning has gotten better is with its horsepower. The extended-range battery pack now delivers 580 horsepower, which is up from the targeted 563. Meanwhile, the standard-range battery pack has also improved to 452 horsepower from 426. Both batteries create an incredible 775 lb-ft of torque, which is the most any F-150 pickup has ever offered.

With all of that added power, it makes sense that the F-150 Lightning’s payload has increased. You can now expect to haul an additional 235 pounds in the truck’s bed, totaling 2,234 pounds of max available payload capacity.

It was previously announced that the F-150 Lightning’s range had improved for its XLT and Lariat trims with the extended-range battery. The range for these models went up by 32 kilometres to a total EPA estimated range of 515 km.[1]
